The weekly water conditions tracker is intended to give people a quick and easy to understand snapshot of conditions around Sanibel and Captiva Islands. We also want to educate people about how the complex and dynamic system of the Caloosahatchee estuary works by distilling scientic information in a simple and easy to understand way. The weekly update features an explanation of current impacts on the Caloosahatchee estuary from Lake Okeechobee releases as well as watershed runoff, current aerial imagery off Sanibel's Lighthouse Beach Park, updates on red tide and blue-green algae, and current events related to water quality.
