Ding Darling Water Quality & Seagrass

The SCCF Marine Lab samples 10 water quality stations within the Refuge monthly. In situ water quality plus discrete samples are analyzed for nitrogen, phosphorus, extracted chlorophyll a and colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM). To supplement the discrete monthly sampling, SCCF cooperatively maintains the Refuge’s YSI 6600 water quality datasondes.

Seagrass surveys are conducted annually schedule at 11 sites within the Refuge. Six additional seagrass stations are visited in before and after large freshwater releases (>3,000 cfs, 30 day average) to determine the effects of high flows on seagrass shoot density and canopy height.
