Join SCCF’s Coastal Wildlife Team and Sanibel Sea School for an unforgettable evening on the beach this August. Our new Public Sea Turtle Hatchling Release program offers a chance to witness hatchlings make their way to the sea. Each session includes a short educational presentation before heading to a beach for the release.
Space is limited, and sessions are free (donations welcome).

When & Where
- Weekly sessions every Tuesday & Wednesday in August
- 7:30/8 p.m. – 9/10 p.m.
- Sanibel Sea School, 455 Periwinkle Way
- Beach for hatchling release
IMPORTANT NOTE: Hatchling releases are dependent on the presence of hatchlings and weather conditions. We will send a final confirmation by 1:30 p.m. the day of your session. If there are no hatchlings or the weather conditions are unsafe, we’ll notify you by email and offer a transfer to a Thursday night session if space allows.
Registration Opens July 1
- Registration will be live on July 1 at 9 a.m. Spots will fill very quickly, so set an alarm and mark your calendars to be ready to click when it opens!
Join a Waitlist
- If the session you would like to register for is full, you will be given the option to join the waitlist. Sign up for the waitlist as soon as possible, because spots open in the order we receive them. The waitlist is automated. You will receive an email from Active Network if a spot opens up. You have 48 hours to take the spot before it moves to the next person, so check your email often!
Confirmation Email
- You should receive a confirmation email after completing your registration. If you do not receive a confirmation email within a couple of hours, please call 239-472-8585 to confirm the registration.

Sea Turtle Program
SCCF is the permit holder for monitoring and protecting sea turtles on Sanibel and Captiva. SCCF is responsible for conducting nesting surveys and recording all sea turtle activity along both islands. Through research, monitoring, and public outreach, SCCF helps contribute to local and national sea turtle conservation efforts.
