Sanibel Plan Exhibit Premiere & Reception
A collaborative exhibit — part of a year-long celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Sanibel — will kick off Nov. 19 at the Sanibel Community House with a documentary film exploring the past, present, and future of the Sanibel Plan. The exhibit is presented by SCCF, WRT, and the University of Florida’s School of Landscape Architecture and Planning. Stay tuned for more details.
This exhibit and accompanying documentary film will explore the history, present state, and future prospects of Sanibel Island, highlighting the profound impact the community made in charting its course by voting to become a city and commissioning a legendary land use plan 50 years ago. Centered around the Sanibel Plan, the exhibit will feature items that illustrate the pressures of development and provide evidence of a changing landscape, predating current concerns about climate change. It will also prompt visitors to consider what measures are needed to ensure the island’s resilience and adaptability in the face of inevitable changes over the next 50 years. The exhibit will showcase a variety of drawings, photographs, and news articles, along with a documentary film that captures the perspectives of individuals involved in the creation, implementation, and ongoing management of the plan. This exhibit is designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sanibel Plan and to honor the significant Sea Change it has brought about.
