Marsh Madness at Bailey Homestead

March 19 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

This is the second year of the community-driven marsh restoration project that aims to restore the natural beauty and health of our coastal wetlands, which were severely impacted by Hurricane Ian. This hands-on initiative focuses on planting marsh grasses, such as spartina, black needlerush and leatherfern, to help rebuild the vital ecosystems that support wildlife.

Volunteers will work alongside SCCF staff to plant several hundred salt-tolerant plant species, ensuring that these marshes can thrive once again. The event will start with an informative briefing on the importance of marsh grasses and the role they play in flood mitigation and ecosystem restoration. Participants will then head to the restoration site, equipped with planting tools and instructions on how to properly plant and care for the grasses.

Not only will you be contributing to the environment, but you’ll also be helping local wildlife find a renewed home in the marshlands. Water, supplies, and gloves will be provided. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or a first-timer, everyone is welcome to lend a hand in this crucial environmental effort.
