Skye McDonald
Spending her early years on North Captiva and a farm in West Virginia, Skye developed a love for the outdoors and island ecosystems. A 2023 graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Skye received a B.A. in Environmental Studies.
During her senior year, Skye studied abroad in Panama, researching the impacts of Marine Protected Areas on reef fish populations and local fishing practices. Her commitment to community education and conservation was further solidified through her internship at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, where she taught middle school classes about marine mammals and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Now at SCCF, Skye is eager to leverage her knowledge and experiences to strengthen the connection between island communities and the vibrant coastal ecosystems they depend on. You can find Skye tending the Coastal Watch Mangrove Nursery, managing volunteer events, and doing research with the Marine Lab.
