Shannon Rivard

Shannon Rivard is an experienced marine science educator with a robust background in informal education and working in the non-profit sector. With a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology from the University of Miami and a Master of Professional Science in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Shannon has built a career centered around marine conservation and education.

Shannon joined Sanibel Sea School in 2017 as a Marine Science Educator, where she taught hands-on, field-based marine science courses to a diverse audience. Her passion for the school’s mission and innovative teaching style led her to her current role as Youth Education Director. In this capacity, she oversees a team of educators, develops and refines curriculum, and maintains vital partnerships with external organizations. Shannon is dedicated to creating transformative educational experiences that foster a deep, emotional connection to nature and encourage lifelong stewardship of marine environments.

Before Sanibel Sea School, Shannon gained valuable experience in various roles, including Educator and Camp Manager at the Miami Seaquarium and internships with the ANGARI Foundation and Central Caribbean Marine Institute. Her work has spanned curriculum development, public outreach, and marine research.

Shannon has always been drawn to the ocean, which has been a constant presence in her life despite frequent moves during her childhood. This unwavering connection and passion for marine science continue to drive her efforts to inspire and educate others about the importance of protecting our blue planet.
