Izzy grew up in New York City where beautiful beaches were hard to come by, so every summer became her chance to be back in the ocean. She started scuba diving when she was 14 and has been obsessed with the ocean ever since. When she graduated high school, she went on to get her scuba instructor certification and attend the University of Miami where she majored in Marine Affairs and minored in theater, communication, and sign language. Before starting school, she spent a semester volunteering at the New York Aquarium, diving in exhibits and feeding the sharks, rays, and turtles.
While at university, she spent her summers teaching diving and marine science to middle and high school students on liveaboards in the Caribbean. After graduating, she spent the summer in Cape Cod working in education and outreach at a great white shark research organization.
Goblin sharks are her favorite animal, but loggerhead sea turtles are a close second. Seeing bull sharks is her top diving experience and the Portuguese man o’ war is her favorite invertebrate. Izzy is excited to bring her enthusiasm and passion to the Sanibel Sea School and can’t wait to learn even more about our oceans.
