Doc Ford’s Raises Over $7K for Sanibel Sea School Program

We are thrilled to announce Doc Ford’s recently donated $7,500 to Sanibel Sea School through funds raised from the restaurant’s National Yucatan Shrimp Day 7K race on Sanibel. The donation will help support Sanibel Sea School’s “A Week in the Field” Teen Camp!
A Week in the Field is designed to kindle the passion for environmental research in high school students ages 13 to 15. Throughout the week, students shadow SCCF scientists in their respective fields. Students work alongside staff to analyze and gather data, get hands-on experience in field techniques and research methods, and learn how to communicate results to various audiences.
“We are so grateful to be receiving funds from the National Yucatán Shrimp Day 7K,” said Sanibel Sea School Director Shannon Rivard. “The contribution will cover the cost of our one-of-a-kind, immersive camp called A Week in the Field and allow us to continue offering it completely free. This ensures that our programs remain accessible to all students, a core part of our mission.”
Sanibel Sea School aims to break down financial barriers by making this camp accessible to all eager minds. By offering A Week in the Field at no cost to campers and providing transportation options, we aspire to enrich the lives of young individuals, fostering a love for science, nature, and the vital work of conservationists.
“Thanks to Doc Ford’s, high school students from diverse backgrounds will explore Sanibel’s rich ecosystems through hands-on environmental research,” Rivard said. “From surveying shorebirds to collecting water samples, analyzing oyster beds, and learning side-by-side with SCCF’s scientists, our campers will gain meaningful skills and experiences that could shape the course of their lives.”
