SCCF Sluggers Finish First Season in Community League

The SCCF Sluggers joined four other teams for the Spring Adult Co-Ed Softball League this season, packing the bleachers with friends, family, and co-workers during nine games at the ball fields at the Sanibel Recreation Center.
“Even though we never won a game we always had a great time,” said Sluggers Team Manager Brianna Frank. “If we had a bad inning you never heard a negative word spoken. Everyone was always so positive and uplifting to their teammates. We celebrated each other’s wins and gave support when it was needed.”
The Sluggers were the only team from a nonprofit that played in the league this spring, with other teams from Doc Ford’s, Whitney’s, the Bubble Room, and Trader’s.
“At the beginning of the season very few of our teammates had ever played softball, but by the end of the season you would never be able to tell,” said Frank. “The players among us who had played before were constantly coaching their teammates and helping them to grow and do better each and every game.”

The league play brought team members from all across SCCF closer and feeling more a part of the island community. Over the season, the team went from scoring only two runs per game to scoring upwards of 12 runs.
“We were hitting home runs, catching fly balls, and making outs. It was amazing to see the progress that the team made in such a short period of time,” said Frank.
The fans at the games helped support the Sluggers in their first experience with island league play.
“Every week our section of the bleachers would be packed with friends, family, and co-workers wearing their SCCF Sluggers shirts and cheering us on,” said Frank. “It isn’t always easy supporting the underdog, but regardless, they were always there for us. We really appreciate all of the support that they gave us this season.”
