Educators Attend Project WILD Workshop
SCCF Marine Science Educators Jordyn Sateren and Izzy Lutz recently attended a Project WILD/Aquatic Workshop at Manatee Park, where they learned more about educational practices and theory to apply to our programs at Sanibel Sea School to better share ocean love!
Project WILD’s mission is to provide wildlife-based conservation and environmental education that fosters responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources. Our educators attended this course to develop a deeper understanding of different educational practices to apply to our courses and camps at Sanibel Sea School.
“It was such a pleasure to participate in this workshop,” said Lutz. “Connecting with other local environmental educators was incredibly empowering, and it was a joy to connect with nature through the lens of our students. The activities we practiced from Project WILD and Aquatic WILD had a delightful range, which granted us the freedom to adapt them to the many topics we cover at Sanibel Sea School.”
Project WILD identifies education as the catalyst for a society that promotes informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment. Project WILD is focused on activities related to terrestrial wildlife, and Aquatic WILD focuses on aquatic wildlife and ecosystems.
Marine Science Educators regularly participate in professional development workshops, attend conferences, and keep up certifications for applicable skills.
“Attending training sessions such as Project WILD helps ensure we provide the highest quality of education to support our mission of improving the ocean’s future, one person at a time,” said Sanibel Sea School Director Shannon Rivard.
Project WILD is part of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s groundbreaking public-private partnership initiative called the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN), which seeks to inspire a lifelong delight for the outdoors and a passion for conserving Florida’s exquisite natural resources.
