Read all about resiliency in action on Sanibel and Captiva in our latest “Connecting You to Nature” magazine.

As barrier islands, Sanibel and Captiva are at the forefront of climate change — bearing the brunt of more frequent and intense hurricanes, rising sea levels and temperatures, and saltwater inundation.

However, unlike many coastal communities that face these same challenges, our islands are well-positioned to become a model for resilience.

In addition to 70% of Sanibel being held in conservation, SCCF’s science and research on water quality, wildlife, and shifting habitat conditions are helping inform management decisions that best protect our natural resources. Our experiential education is inspiring sustainable action and environmental stewardship, and our advocacy is pushing for policies and nature-based solutions that help us adapt to and attempt to mitigate impacts from our changing environment.
