CECI Students Embrace Environmental Stewardship in Mangrove Planting Event
On Thursday, Jan. 9, Coastal Watch hosted a heartwarming event at Children’s Education Center of the Islands (CECI) where young environmentalists from the CECI School participated in a mangrove potting event.
A group of 19 enthusiastic 2-4-year-olds, the youngest Adopt-a-Mangrove participants to date, gathered to plant mangroves in beautifully decorated pots. The event aimed to educate these budding environmentalists about the importance of mangrove forests, shedding light on the vital ecosystems they provide for oysters, birds, and various other species in Southwest Florida.
Under the careful guidance of CECI teachers, the 19 youngsters will assume the role of caretakers for these seedlings throughout the spring season. This hands-on experience not only fosters a sense of environmental responsibility but also establishes a connection between the next generation and the preservation of our precious ecosystems.
Coastal Watch applauds the commitment of the CECI students and looks forward to continued collaboration in nurturing a love for nature and environmental conservation among these young community members.
