Canterbury High School Seniors Make a Big Impact at Beach Road Cleanup
On Friday, Nov. 22, a group of 12 motivated high school seniors from Canterbury School rolled up their sleeves and got to work as part of their Canterbury Day of Service. The students dedicated their morning to cleaning up the small SCCF preserve on Beach Road and the area around the weir, making a tangible difference in the local environment.
These mangroves were able to trap debris in their intricate root systems, posing a unique challenge for the group. The students climbed and wove their way through the trees, determined to remove every piece of trash they could find. Their efforts not only cleared the area of litter but also protected this vital mangrove habitat.
By the end of the cleanup, the students had collected an impressive amount of debris, leaving the preserve and surrounding area significantly cleaner and healthier. Their hard work showcased the power of youth engagement in conservation and set a strong example for others in the community to follow.
“A huge thank you to the Canterbury seniors for their dedication and effort! Their commitment to environmental stewardship is a reminder that every action counts when it comes to protecting our coastal ecosystems.” – Coastal Watch Director, Kealy Pfau
