Stay in the know about wildlife, water quality, and ecosystems on Sanibel and Captiva Islands and in Southwest Florida
Only One More Adoption Day Left This Season!
As we wrap up our third Adoption Day of the year, let’s take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact our community has made so far. A massive thank-you to all the Mangrove Mamas and Propagule Papas who have helped make these events a huge success. Your dedication to protecting our coast is inspiring!
During our Adopt-A-Mangrove Adoption Days, the Bailey Homestead has been bustling with residents eager to take home their very own baby mangroves. These seedlings are now all across Southwest Florida, growing strong in the care of their new foster parents.
Here’s how we’ve done so far:
- 10/3: 12 people adopted 100 mangroves
- 10/24: 20 people adopted 127 mangroves
- 11/20: 17 people adopted 99 mangroves
That’s 326 mangroves adopted and counting—each one a small but mighty step toward a more resilient coastline!
If you couldn’t make it to these events, don’t worry—there’s still one more chance this season! Our final Adoption Day of the year will be held on Dec. 11, and we’d love to see you there.
RSVP on Facebook and let us know you’re coming!
“Each mangrove seedling represents a step toward a stronger coastline. Watching our community come together to care for babies is truly inspiring. Together, we’re building a legacy of resilience and restoration for future generations.” — Kealy Pfau, Coastal Watch Director
