Join Coastal Watch for the Love Sanibel Back Beach Cleanup Nov. 2
After the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Sanibel’s beaches are in need of a little extra love. On Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9–11 a.m., SCCF’s Coastal Watch is organizing an island-wide beach cleanup, and we need volunteers to help restore our Sanibel shores!
Why This Matters:
The aftermath of back-to-back hurricanes can leave behind a trail of debris and trash that poses a significant threat to the delicate ecosystems of Sanibel. The buildup of waste on our beaches not only detracts from the island’s natural beauty but can also harm local wildlife and disrupt the coastal habitats that are vital for many marine species. By stepping up to help clean these areas, volunteers play a crucial role in removing hazardous debris and making the beach safer for nesting sea turtles, shorebirds, and other wildlife.
Moreover, beach cleanups like this help strengthen the resilience of our island. Restoring the beaches and dunes allows them to better withstand future storms, acting as natural buffers that protect against coastal erosion and flooding. By participating, you’ll be making a direct impact on the long-term health and sustainability of Sanibel’s shores.
