Great Turnout at Legislative Delegation Meeting

Today’s Lee County Legislative Delegation Meeting had a great turnout, with many of you taking the time to participate in the discussion with our state representatives and senators about why we need to protect Captiva, and why Rep. Botana’s bill would be a wonderful solution. The delegation seemed receptive to ongoing input – so full steam ahead!

Thankfully it appears the media has done their homework and understands the implications of increasing building heights and density on our island. Some recent articles really highlight the importance of our efforts and what’s at stake.

In his piece, “Captiva Island is captivating, let’s keep it that way,” the publisher of Florida Politics described his personal ties to Captiva and his hope for Lee County commissioners to do the right thing and oppose the amendments. Florida Politics is read daily by Florida’s decision-makers and political influencers.

Our local news station, WINK, recognized that “Over 13,000 sign petition against Captiva building codes.”

The Sanibel Captiva Island Reporter published an exceptional Letter to the Editor that takes a deep dive into the intricacies of the issue as the “County doubles down on density exemption.”

Our efforts are being noticed and commended. The wind is at our backs. In the coming days, it’s more important than ever to let our Lee County Commission know why we are opposed to the proposed amendments designed to increase building heights and density on our island.

The next step will be voicing our opposition to the amendments next Wednesday.
