SCCF’s Adopt-A-Mangrove Program Returns for its Fifth Adoption Season
SCCF’s Adopt-A-Mangrove program is returning for its fifth adoption season, and this year marks an exciting new chapter. Thanks to a generous grant from the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club, SCCF is building out a dedicated mangrove nursery at a new location on Sanibel. This expanded space will give us more room to grow, care for, and share mangrove seedlings with our community.
For five seasons, community members have opened their homes, businesses, and schools to young mangroves, focused on nurturing them until they’re ready to become part of our shoreline restoration project.
Now, a new round of baby mangroves is ready for their temporary caretakers! Adopters will take home a young mangrove seedling, learn how to care for it throughout the season, and return it in the spring to be planted at an SCCF restoration site. Adopters may even have the opportunity to join us and plant their mangrove themselves.
Ready to adopt? Register or save the date for one of our 2026–27 mangrove adoption event to pick up your seedling and learn how to care for it throughout the season.
