La Gorce Family Intern Village Construction Progress Update

Since breaking ground on May 4, Stevens Construction reports swift progress on the La Gorce Family Intern Village. The site has been graded and building pads prepared; utility conduits for LCEC and Comcast have been installed; and driveway base layers (subgrade and baserock) are partially in place.

Vertical construction is now underway: foundations for Buildings #1 and #2 are poured, the elevator pit slab and walls are complete, and shear walls for Building #1 are finished. Excavation for Building #3’s foundation has also begun.

Designed for resilience, the 30-bed facility will house seasonal interns for SCCF and its partners — the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium and the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW). Completion is anticipated by spring 2027, in time for the sea turtle nesting season.
