340+ Sea Turtle Nests Documented on Islands
Our sea turtle team has documented a total of 340 loggerhead (Caretta caretta) nests and 2 green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) nests on the islands so far this nesting season. The total number of nests is up from last year’s 264 loggerhead nests to date, with the same number for green sea turtle nests.
The number of nests depredated by coyotes this year is 53, up from 38 depredations to date in 2025. Last week’s high tide also took a toll on nests, with 19 lost to washouts, compared to 1 washout to date in 2025.
