Starting the week of Jan. 19, 2026, SCCF will hold weekly, educational guided walks on two of our trail systems: The newly reopened William and Ruth Brooks Trails behind the SCCF Headquarters and the Shipley Trail, located adjacent to the SCCF Native Landscapes & Garden Center and historic Bailey Home.
No RSVP needed, just meet us at the dates and times listed below!
Tuesdays, 10-11:30 a.m., Brooks Trails
Every Tuesday beginning Jan. 20, step into Sanibel’s natural wonders on a guided walk on SCCF’s newly reopened William and Ruth Brooks Trails, located behind the headquarters building at 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel, FL. Wander through shady uplands, skirt vibrant wetlands, and catch a close-up view of the Sanibel Slough while discovering the wildlife and plants that thrive here. Along the way, hear stories of the island’s conservation legacy and how recent storms have shaped its ecosystems.
Meet at the William and Ruth Brooks Trails entrance in the parking lot on the west side of SCCF Headquarters (3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road). Free, but donations gratefully accepted.
Wear sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent, water, and sun protection.
Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m., Shipley Trail
Every Thursday beginning Jan. 22, Enjoy a leisurely guided stroll down the Shipley Trail at the Bailey Homestead and discover Sanibel’s remarkable conservation story, the history of the Bailey Homestead Preserve, and the island ecosystems that shaped it all. Then wander through the SCCF Native Landscapes & Garden Center to explore vibrant native plant demonstration gardens, see what’s in bloom, and spot the pollinators bringing the space to life. Not open except on a guided walk or during special events, the tour will finish with a rare peek inside the 1896 Bailey house.
Meet at the kiosk on the western side of the Shipley rail at the Bailey Homestead Preserve (1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL). Free, but donations gratefully accepted.
