Engagement to protect and preserve the islands

Environmental Education has always been part of SCCF’s core mission. As of Jan. 1, 2020, SCCF joined forces with the Sanibel Sea School and Dr. Bruce Neill, founder, became SCCF's Education Director.

The environmental education department provides experiences for the community and visitors to increase their awareness and understanding of the nature of the islands and their surroundings. A variety of venues for learning about the islands and the waters surrounding them are offered to people of all ages with an emphasis on utilizing the outdoors as a classroom.

SCCF believes engagement inspires action to protect and preserve this special place.

The department focuses primarily on residents of the island and works closely with other departments to integrate the many aspects of SCCF’s work into environmental education. Staff reach more than 44,000 people every year, whether it was in one of our preserves, on the water, or in the yards of local homeowners. Audiences were wide-ranging, from adults to children of all ages.

SCCF's upcoming events and programs can be found here.

Please reach out to the Sanibel Sea School to learn about fun, educational programs for all ages.
