Full Time Marine Lab Research Associate:
Water Quality, Habitat Monitoring, Restoration

Preferred Skills and Abilities: We are looking for a candidate with a M.S. degree in one of the following: environmental, ecological or marine sciences. The Marine Laboratory at SCCF has an immediate opening for a candidate in estuarine ecology with experience monitoring water quality, seagrass (SAV) habitats, including faunal and algal associates. They also need to have experience identifying and enumerating vertebrate and invertebrate taxa. The individual will work closely with senior lab research personnel and its collaborators planning, executing, and performing related analyses/reporting. Prior experience with field work, the operation, trailering and maintenance of small (< 23' ) boats, and SCUBA required. Must also be able towork in marine, estuarine and freswater upland habitats (e.g. seagrasses, oysters, mangroves, marshes.) Ability to create and follow QA/QC protocols invaluable. The successful candidate should have excellent written and oral skills (e.g. publications and presentations at scientific meetings), be able to work independently, be proficient in the use of PC software including MS Windows, MS Office Professional Suite, and graphical (e.g. SigmaPlot, Surfer) and statistical (e.g. SAS, SPSS) software packages. Ability to use ESRI (GIS) products and perform GPS surveying/mapping also preferable, as is prior experience supervising other personnel.
Objectives and Duties: The individual will oversea a new multi-year project whose goals are to identify potential sources of impaired waters, establish water quality baselines, assess runoff sources and the status of marine habitats in and around Sanibel and Captiva Island, direct sampling through time and around rain and/or freshwater discharge 'events,' conduct experiments and maintain databases, and analyses and report writing. Will also collect information on critical habitats using field mapping studies and assist with other projects/programs as needed, including oversight.
Education and Experience Requirements: The position is at junior level, and we are looking for a canidate to plan, manage and execute one or more grants related to water quality and habitat assessment/restoration. M.S. degree required, with additional practical experience.

Native Plant Nursery Internship
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) Native
Plant Nursery seeks an energetic and hardworking intern to assist in day-to-day
nursery operations as well as work with our landscape design and installation
services. The Native Plant Nursery
offers a unique working environment, as it is a non-profit retail nursery
dedicated to landscaping for the improvement of native habitat and wildlife on
Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
Internship responsibilities will include all aspects of retail
nursery operation and plant care, including watering, potting, pruning,
weeding, plant propagation, landscape installation, and customer service.
The internship offers the opportunity to
obtain in-depth knowledge about South Florida native plants and gain firsthand experience
in all aspects of an environmentally-friendly nursery and landscaping
business.
Applicants should have a strong interest in plants and
conservation, preferably possessing or pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s
degree in horticulture, biology, environmental science, ecology, or a related
field. The intern should also be prepared to work in subtropical conditions,
